The Regional Government of Extremadura gathers in Mérida a hundred researchers from Extremadura abroad

The Minister María Mercedes Vaquera has claimed the potential of Extremadura and “the pride of being Extremadura”.

The Ministry of Education, Science and Vocational Training brings together in Merida a hundred researchers from Extremadura abroad, in a pioneering meeting organized by the Junta de Extremadura with the aim of connecting researchers from Extremadura, exchange knowledge and promote future collaborations.

In this ‘First Meeting of Extremaduran Researchers Abroad’, the Minister highlighted the importance of the transforming role of science, research, innovation and technology in the development of Extremadura. Also to strengthen the international identity of the region in the fields of research and technology and lay the foundations to make Extremadura a benchmark for innovation and sustainable development. “This meeting highlights the potential and research talent we have in Extremadura”.

María Mercedes Vaquera emphasized that one of the objectives of the event is to establish collaborative networks between researchers who live in the region and those who are outside in order to establish synergies and transfer knowledge to the productive fabric. “Knowledge transfer is one of the most important points,” she said. María Mercedes Vaquera has highlighted the effort of the Government of María Guardiola for our researchers, with research grants that in 2024 exceeded 19.5 million euros.

“We know that investing in research is investing in the future, in our development and in the welfare of the people of Extremadura. Researchers will always have our hand outstretched. We will not stop investing in research and education”.

On this day, the Minister has listened to the proposals and demands of all the scientists abroad, whom she has asked to feel “the pride of being Extremaduran”.

The meeting has counted with the presentations of relevant researchers from Extremadura such as Guadalupe Sabio, Asunción Gómez or Lourdes Vega.

The event was attended by the Secretary General of Science, Javier de Francisco Morcillo, the Director General of the University, Esther Muñoz, and the Director General of External Action, Pablo Hurtado.
