Fundecyt-PCTEX Promotes Extremadura’s Participation in the Horizon Europe Capacity-Building Workshop in Brussels
As part of the Specific Transfer for the Internationalisation of R&I and the Promotion of R&I Internationalisation activities, Fundecyt-PCTEX facilitated Extremadura’s participation in the “Horizon Europe Capacity-Building Workshop” held in Brussels on 6 and 7 November. This event brought together representatives from over 60 regions across Europe, focusing on providing guidance, practical knowledge, and tools to optimise participation in Horizon Europe’s collaborative research calls.

Three representatives from Extremadura participated in this knowledge expedition, reinforcing the region’s commitment to the internationalisation of R&I. They had the opportunity to engage in an environment of experience-sharing and strategic exchange, which will be crucial for preparing successful proposals for future Horizon Europe calls.
Workshop Highlights
The workshop featured high-value sessions, including:
- Introduction and Context: Massimiliano Esposito from the European Commission delivered a detailed presentation on the role of EU institutions and the Horizon Europe Strategic Plan for 2025–2027.
- Participation in Brussels: Mareike Schmitt from the European Liaison Office of the German Research Organisations highlighted the key players in the Belgian capital, emphasising the importance of networking and effective engagement with the European Commission.
- Funding Mechanisms: Ulrich Genschel from DG RTD explained the latest updates on Horizon Europe’s funding mechanisms, including the lump sum system.
- Consortium Building: Ylva and Gianpiero from ERRIN led sessions on building successful consortia and presented the ERRIN Project Development Tool, which facilitates identifying calls and creating strategic consortia.
- Evaluation Insights: Massimo Busuoli from NTNU Brussels shared valuable advice from an evaluator’s perspective, shedding light on the proposal evaluation process.
- Call Analysis: Ann Van Hauwaert and Man Hei To from NCP Flanders provided a practical guide on proposal preparation, helping participants approach calls with confidence and effectiveness.
