BIP – EU Green: Summer School for Early Career Researchers

The University of Extremadura (UEx), as part of the EU GREEN Alliance of Universities, organised the Blended Intensive Program (BIP) titled “Transversal Skills for the Internationalisation of Early Career Researchers through EU Projects.” Running from 2 May to 5 July, this programme offered comprehensive and practical training aimed at enhancing the international competencies of young researchers.

Programme Overview:

During May and June, the BIP was delivered online, enabling participants to acquire knowledge and develop skills remotely. From 1 to 5 July, the First Summer School for Early Career Researchers of EU GREEN took place in person as part of the Alliance’s research activities. This initiative facilitated collaboration and knowledge sharing among participants, fostering the creation of collaborative consortia and the development of sustainable projects through multidisciplinary teams.

The programme focused on agile methodologies and co-creation approaches aimed at fostering innovation.

OPE-SECTI Collaboration:

The OPE-SECTI office contributed to the event by organising a parallel communication activity focused on promoting international visibility among participants.

This activity was funded by the Internationalisation TE, the General Secretariat of Education, Science, and Professional Training of the Junta de Extremadura, and the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) of the EU (“A Way of Making Europe”) at 80%, and was managed by FUNDECYT – Scientific and Technological Park of Extremadura.

Natural Settings and Sustainability Focus:

The Summer School was held in natural locations across northern Extremadura, including Plasencia, Madrigal de la Vera, Villanueva de la Vera, and Cuacos de Yuste. These venues not only provided an ideal environment for scientific exchange but also heightened awareness of sustainability in diverse areas such as:

  • Water pollution
  • Materials engineering
  • Agriculture and soil management
  • Machine learning
  • Sustainable economy

International Participation:

During the in-person week, the event welcomed researchers from universities including Évora (Portugal), Angers (France), Sligo (Ireland), Parma (Italy), Magdeburg (Germany), Wroclaw (Poland), and the University of Extremadura itself. The Summer School brought together over 15 international researchers, creating an enriching environment for collaboration and learning.
